Last night our Bow Common Gasworks project in Tower Hamlets received unanimous approval at planning committee.
Working as urban designers, architects and landscape architects for client St William - a joint venture between the Berkeley Group Plc and National Grid – our scheme transforms a brownfield site into a new accessible place in a landscape-first design approach, allowing the wider community to reconnect with grounds that had been closed to the public for over 150 years.
The residential-led development provides a canvas for living, working, learning and playing, with up to 1,450 homes , a new Sixth Form School facility, and flexible commercial uses to include the restoration of a former gasworks building, all centred around a new, ecologically driven 1-hectare park.
Bow Common Gasworks will be delivered over five phases of residential development, with elements of the park delivered alongside each phase to ensure community benefits are made throughout construction.
