Singapura Steam: A Proposal for Tanjong Pagar Railway Station
The vision, masterplan and application for Earls Court has been led by a 50/50 collaboration of Studio Egret West and Hawkins Brown as Principal Masterplan Architects. We have enjoyed a wonderful collaboration over the past 4 years.
We have worked with WSP and Hoare Lea who led the engineering approach to this complex site with many interfaces.
Studio Egret West also enjoyed collaborating with SLA on the multi layered approach to landscape architecture and public realm. In addition we have co-ordinated the work of many talented plot architects including ACME, DRMM, Haworth Tompkins, Macreanor Lavington, Serie and Sheppard Robson.
We have taken a harmonising approach from the outset, weaving together the four “Place Pillars” of Nature, Innovation, Culture, and Neighbourhood, promises an inspiring new destination designed for all stages of life.
The proposals include:
- Circa 4,000 new homes including affordable housing across a range of tenures
- A showcase for climate and clean innovation and skills with 2.9 million sq. ft. of flexible workspace contributing to around 12,000 jobs on site
- A celebration of nature, with twenty acres of public open space and green space, people first streets and squares, over 1,000 new trees and a flower amphitheatre
- Three new cultural and performance venues, providing an ecosystem for the future of creative talent, and up to 100 shops, cafes and restaurants
- A new Community Hub, sports facilities, play spaces, up to two childcare facilities and spaces suitable for health, wellbeing and leisure uses
What an amazing effort by so many, led by a committed client team who have put community engagement at the heart of the master planning process, to inform the evolution of the brief and the design proposals. Shout out to Iceni and ZCD Architects who led an examplar consultation process. Also a shout out to DP9 who have steered a positive planning process and Cast who have seamlessly orchestrated the project management.
High five to all!
