Responses to the Public Consultation Process of Holt Town highlighted the need for the development of a walkable neighbourhood, making spaces pedestrianised where possible and the need for sustainable and active transport.
The pupils of St. Anne’s primary school contributed in earnest to the proposal and gave valuable insights to what would genuinely enhance the quality of their lives and the lives of their families.
Children have told us they want to be safe and healthy and live in communities that are cared for and have things to do. ‘Play’ became a key principle for Holt Town to foster a family friendly and intergenerational public realm design that prioritises people first.
The workshop with the pupils was genuine and engaging and what stood out was that their responses aligned with Manchester’s UNICEF Child Friendly City bid that is based on a six-month consultation with over 11.000 children and young people. The Holt Town Neighbourhood Development Framework has fully embraced Manchester's Child Friendly City goals, Manchester’s Climate Change Framework and The North Manchester Social Benefit Framework from its inception and the final design proposal is a reflection of the needs of the local community and the importance of connecting Manchester’s residents to opportunities of economic growth. It highlights the profound positive impact a holistic approach to regeneration has on the environment and the physical and mental well-being of all its residents.
