Joe Gibbs
Interior Architect
I am a British architect with experience working in Barcelona, Rotterdam and London, for a mix of socially engaged and environmentally conscious architectural studios. Working across different cultural and professional contexts has broadened my perspective on design, and strengthened my interest in architecture that responds thoughtfully to both people and place.
Alongside practice, I have contributed to research projects with The Centre for Architecture and Built Environment Research (CABER), exploring themes such as participatory and community-led design, the application of bio-based materials, and circular design within the built environment.
Sustainability has been a consistent thread throughout my work. I see sustainable design not as a constraint, but as an opportunity for innovation and creativity. Investigating how materials, processes and systems can be reimagined has become central to my design thinking.
In 2025, I authored Circular Materials, a book that explores a series of architectural and design case studies that utilise salvaged, recycled and cultivated materials. Through this work, I aimed to highlight practical and inspiring examples of circular thinking in action, contributing to the wider conversation about how architecture and design can respond to the environmental challenges of our time.
