The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) campus sits alongside The London Cancer Hub’s proposals to deliver over 1 million square feet of research laboratories, offices, accommodation, and leisure amenities. The collective ambition for the wider cluster is to be the world's leading cancer research district.
The team includes Buro Happold, Hoare Lee, Elliot Wood, Mott Macdonald, Etude, Greengage, NTR Planning and Project Four.
We’re looking forward to making progress on this important project and welcome the appointment of Studio Egret West. Our Sutton campus has tremendous potential, and we want to enhance it to help us attract the best and brightest to work and study at the ICR. This project will ensure we have a long-term vision for both our estate in Sutton and our role within the wider London Cancer Hub.”Professor Kristian Helin, Chief Executive The Institute of Cancer Research, London
Our overarching vision is to bring wellness, nature, environmental and financial sustainability to the fore. Every square metre needs to contribute to the ICR’s mission. This will not only inspire our staff and students to become their very best, but also enhance our competitive edge to appeal to professionals of all ages and backgrounds; by amplifying our unique assets and offering something distinctly different from other science locations, we can attract and retain the best talent in science.”Simon Francis, Director of Estates and Facilities The Institute of Cancer Research, London
Creative meanwhile opportunities will be provided on site to meet the immediate demands of the campus and a neighbourhood wide, ecology enriching, landscape approach will help knit elements of the campus together and contribute to an improved microclimate and climate change resilient space.
It is such a pivotal time for the ICR and we’re humbled to be part of their new journey. We have an expert team behind us and together we want to build upon the existing excellence at the ICR and create a thriving place that is as globally recognised and renowned as the research institute and charity itself. Our approach, inspired by the scientists on-site, will be to unravel the intertwined campus components; Make a diagnosis of the challenges and opportunities; Then craft targeted interventions; And phase their treatment in the most effective way.”David West, Founding Director Studio Egret West
Studio Egret West has also been asked to look at the ICR’s other sites at Chelsea and Pollard’s Wood to ensure a strategic, joined-up approach is taken.
