The Old Vinyl Factory, Erith School and Carpenters Wharf have been shortlisted for the New London Awards 2019. This award recognises projects that make London a better place to live and work.

The Old Vinyl Factory for U+I is nominated for Masterplans and Area Strategies. Drawing inspiration from the site’s music making history, the framework is invigorating the surrounding community through up to 4000 local employment opportunities and the creation of 600 new homes. A mix of re-imagined Art Deco office buildings, innovation and educational hubs, restaurants, shops, gym, and cinema are tied together by a sequence of public spaces that create the platform for day-to-day living, working and events.

Shortlisted in the Education category, Erith School for Anderson Group with L and Q is the focal point of our masterplan for Erith Quarry; an ecological, residential-led development set to breathe new life into a disused quarry. Located at the entrance into this new community, the 3-form primary school builds on the wider masterplan aspirations where sustainability is at its heart, encouraging nature and biodiversity of the site.

Also designed for Anderson Group is Carpenter’s Wharf, which is nominated in the Mixed-Use category. Located alongside the canal in Hackney Wick, the scheme combines exhibition / affordable workspace and a café with 44 new high quality homes. The building’s mass has been divided into smaller elements to address the historical scale of the canal side setting, whilst contributing to a vibrant public realm that integrates with the local artistic community.

The winners will be announced at the NLA Annual Lunch at the Guildhall on July 3.
