We had a great time at the Festival of Place last week! We were lucky enough to share the stage with our peers tackling the big questions in policy, design and development.

Studio Egret West’s Founding Director, David West, and Associate Director (Landscape), Tommy Clarke, both took to the stage on different panels.

Kicking off the morning, Tommy Clarke joined Jon Watson of Landsec to tell the story behind the transformation of Lewisham Shopping Centre. Tommy highlighted our multi-layered approach, placing a dynamic network of public meadows at the heart of the project—sitting above an existing shopping centre. The design draws on the site’s rich history and the voices of the local community to create inclusive, accessible landscapes.

Later in the day, David West joined Marine Tanguy of MTARTagency and Ramsey Yassa of Nooma Studio to explore how public art, co-curation, and community engagement can deepen our connection to shared spaces. David championed the power of artists to sense and reveal the genius loci—the spirit of place—allowing that intuition to shape the brief itself. Public space becomes a living canvas, layered with meaning through authentic collaboration.

Together, these conversations underscore our belief that great design is not just seen, it’s felt, lived, and shaped with others - Shaping Everyday Wonder.
