Studio Egret West is happy to share our entry to the Napoli Porta Est international design competition, co authored with Lombardini 22 and Hub Engineering.

The competition, financed by the Campania Region, provides for a total investment of about 700 million euros, intended for the urban regeneration of the area, the integration of an intermodal mobility hub, and the construction of a new civic headquarters for the Region.

Our solution was a highly ambitious, complex, landscape-led framework in the heart of Napoli by the train station, with the ambition to bring to the heart of the city the first park in over 100 years.

A Chilometro Verde (green kilometre), unravelling throughout the site, connects 5 themed gardens inspired by the local mediterranean landscapes.

A 60K sqm government building at the heart of the project , provides the opportunity to create a new icon and symbol for the city, the CastelCampania, the 8th castle of Napoli, the castle for the people.

50K sqm of residential, office and mixed-uses, cluster around the castello in the recognisable form of a 'borgo', of a village taking inspiration from the vernacular urban forms and healing the disconnection of the site from the surroundings.

Our proposal is a multi-layered affair that amplifies the energy of the city, is rooted in its urban historical form and celebrates the qualities of the surrounding region.

Congratulations to Zaha Hadid Architects for their winning scheme.
