First look at the housing-led mixed-use redevelopment of GlaxoSmithKline’s former west London HQ

Our client Hadley Property Group, has begun consultation on the early designs for the c.2,000-home proposals including the substantial remodelling of the former GSK West London HQ landmark.

Led by Haworth Tompkins, the overarching vision delivers a vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood with affordable and student housing, alongside commercial space.

The design team also includes Metropolitan Workshop, dRMM, and Studio Egret West. SEW's role on the project is to strip the existing landmark back to its core, retaining the basement and part of the structure. The plan also features an innovative reuse of steel from the demolished sections to construct a new extension.

The proposals aim to knit the site back into Brentford, reconnecting the communities to the north of Great West Road with Brentford town centre, and include new pedestrian and cycle-friendly routes, public spaces and amenities, commercial and employment space.

The consultation boards show how spaces under the M4 would be opened up, creating a ‘public destination for multigenerational activities’ and a new entrance into Boston Manor Park.
