For decades, the city of Bratislava has been planning to transform the area between the two bridges on the southern bank of the Danube River into a compact new central city district interconnected with the already emerging downtown. The purpose of the competition was to find a robust masterplan concept for a 210,000 sqm mixed use, sustainable neighbourhood.
Penta received 52 submissions in the first round of the competition. 6 teams then advanced to the second round.
When choosing the design proposal of Studio Egret West and Snøhetta as the winner, the jury of professionals evaluated the design’s underlying concept, its complexity, the quality of urbanism and architecture, and the use of public space, with an emphasis on greenery and the natural context of the project’s location.
Our winning proposal will be launched in April 2023 and worked up into greater detail thereafter.
