There are two kinds of people in the world: those who are optimistic, and those who are not. Prior to my professional and academic architectural experiences, I was of the latter mind-set.

Since starting university, I have been pleasantly surprised by the capabilities that good design has to actually improve the world we live in. My initial pessimistic outlook has be channelled into a strength; it compels me to constantly improve on everything I do.

An example is research project I did in 2018, where I imagined how the world would look and function when machines had taken over 50% of human work. I initially had a pretty alarmist vision, imagining a world filled with pollution, segregation, and low-tech. As the project developed, I realised that this was only depicting the worst-case scenario, and not what could happen through urban and architectural interventions that were socially, environmentally and spatially considered.

During my time at Studio Egret West, I will endeavour to always improve the details of the places I work on, to ensure we realise the best possible outcome for our communities.
