I want to encourage a sense of communal ownership in order to create an adaptable and therefore sustainable landscape.”

A lifelong appreciation of art and the outdoors naturally led me to Landscape Architecture, applying my same process and principles learnt in drawing and painting in my current work.

However, I am conscious that my landscape designs are more than a means of my own personal expression, but are public realm needing to serve the community. I believe successful landscapes are those that reflect the personality of the people rather than the designer's taste. I see the designer's role is to make key strategic moves, and provide opportunities that encourage a sense of communal ownership in order to create an adaptable and therefore sustainable landscape.

My ability to think as the user, designing at the level they would experience the landscape, helps me to design in this way. In recent projects I have particularly enjoyed the creativity in designing play, imagining how a child would experience the space and designing elements that encourage them to experiment and engage in their own way.

In my own time I continue to work independently as an artist and illustrator.
